A Task Force within VOICE-Buffalo consists of a group of citizen leaders from member congregations who are committed to a set of related issues about which they have a special interest.  Task Force activities are regularly reported back to the entire membership which then provides bottom-up feedback and ideas.

at the Legislative Office Building (LOB), Albany, NY

Representatives from our Taskforce Visited Albany Legislators to urge them to enact legislation which would bring about fairness in public transportation.

Transit advocates should arrive at the LOB by 10 a.m. for the legislative briefing. Legislative appointments are scheduled all afternoon, followed by a reception at 4:30 p.m.

The day is being organized by the New York Public Transit Association which seeks to bring together transit agencies, riders, labor, environmental groups, business partners and the disability community to show Albany that public transit is important to voters -- so let's be there!

1999-2001
Riverwalk Action – Secured $500,000 allocation in the Erie County budget to upgrade the Niagara Riverwalk including transfer of certain pocket parks from the city to the county.

2002-2004
Educational Video - Produced video describing sprawl and its impact on our region, presented to congregations, town boards, government agencies.

2003 Regional Summit
Held at Buffalo State College featuring urban planner David Rusk.Issues included sprawl, transportation, segregation, declining communities.

2004-2005
Genesee Street Rebuild – successfully organized affected businesses and residents to provide input to NYS DOT as to desired elements.

2006
Erie Canal District – advocated preserving 2004 Plan versus waters edge location for Bass Pro.

2006-2007
Educational DVD – Produced with Canisius College under a $3000 grant. Anticipates findings reported in the Framework for Economic Growth.

2007
Framework for Economic Growth – advocated adoption by the County Legislature.

2007-2008Regional Advisory Group to the GBNRTC – worked with Hal Morse, Executive Director of the GBNRTC, to create a citizens’ advisory group consisting of 10 area community organizations focused on job access and public transportation.

2008
Erie County Planning Board – worked with team headed by Legislator Maria Whyte to draft a public law to implement the planning board envisioned by the Framework for Economic Growth.
